MAKENI CITY COUNCIL HOLDS FINAL END-OF-YEAR COUNCIL SITTING FOR 2025

Makeni City Council has successfully held its final and highly significant end-of-year council sitting for 2025, bringing together councillors, core staff, partners, and stakeholders to reflect on achievements, address challenges, and set a clear path for improved service delivery in the coming year.

*Mayor’s End-of-Year Statement*

Opening the sitting, the Mayor of Makeni City Council warmly welcomed councillors, staff, government representatives, and members of the public, expressing appreciation for their presence at what he described as a final and important council meeting for the year 2025.

The Mayor extended profound gratitude to the Government of Sierra Leone for its continued support to Makeni City Council, noting that such support has been instrumental in enabling the council to deliver on its mandate. He congratulated newly appointed councillors on their respective committee assignments and encouraged them to discharge their duties with commitment, integrity, and a strong sense of public service.

He further commended the Chief Administrator and core staff of the council for their dedication, professionalism, and tireless efforts throughout the year, acknowledging that their collective hard work has contributed significantly to the progress recorded in 2025.

Highlighting some of the council’s major gains, the Mayor pointed to notable improvements in waste management, enhanced city beautification including the rehabilitation of the Clock Tower, as well as bridge and culvert construction, among several other development interventions aimed at improving the living conditions of residents in Makeni. He concluded his statement by wishing councillors, staff, and the people of Makeni a prosperous New Year.

*Chief Administrator’s Final Year Address*

In his end-of-year address, the Chief Administrator expressed sincere appreciation to councillors, staff, development partners, and stakeholders for their unwavering support throughout 2025. He reflected on both the challenges faced and the development milestones achieved during the year, emphasizing that progress was made despite constraints.

The Chief Administrator humbly asked for forgiveness from anyone he may have offended or stepped on in the course of executing his official responsibilities, stressing that all actions taken were solely in the interest of advancing the work of the council. He also extended forgiveness to all those who may have wronged him during the year, calling for unity, understanding, and mutual respect within the council family.

He concluded by wishing everyone a Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year, while reaffirming his commitment to supporting the council’s development agenda.

*Review of Concerns from Previous Minutes and Forward-Looking Resolutions*

A significant portion of the sitting was dedicated to the review and discussion of concerns raised in previous council minutes. Councillors carefully examined outstanding issues related to project implementation, service delivery gaps, revenue mobilization, community engagement, and internal administrative coordination.

Members deliberated extensively on strategies to strengthen monitoring and supervision of council projects, improve communication between councillors and their constituents, and enhance timely implementation of council resolutions. Suggestions were made to reinforce accountability mechanisms, ensure better documentation of council decisions, and promote inclusive participation of stakeholders in council-led initiatives.

Councillors also emphasized the need for improved collaboration between political leadership and technical staff to accelerate development outcomes in 2025 and beyond. Practical recommendations were adopted to guide council operations in 2026, with a shared commitment to learning from past challenges and building on existing successes for sustained progress.

*Deputy Mayor’s Reflections and Commitments*

Delivering his end-of-year remarks, the Deputy Mayor candidly reflected on areas where mistakes were made in 2025, acknowledging actions and decisions that did not yield the desired outcomes. He emphasized the importance of self-assessment and learning, outlining corrective measures to ensure improved performance and stronger governance moving forward into 2026.

The Deputy Mayor apologized to council staff and the general public for any shortcomings and misunderstandings during the year and extended forgiveness to all, calling for renewed cooperation, trust, and unity as the council prepares for the new year.

*Vote of Thanks*

The vote of thanks was delivered by Councillor Lovetta I. Turay, who expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Chief Administrator, fellow councillors, and council staff for their collective hard work and dedication throughout 2025.

She encouraged the people of Makeni to maintain confidence in the leadership of the council, continue to support council initiatives, and uphold them in prayers to enable the council to deliver even more meaningful development interventions for the city.
